Pest control is a set of measures and procedures that are continuously taken in order to control harmful synanthropic rodents (grey rat, black rat, house mouse, etc.). In addition to the material damage they cause, in the form of consumption, contamination and damage to goods, raw materials and finished products, synanthropic rodents are also a significant health risk to humans and their environment. Rodents are natural reservoirs and carriers of various infectious diseases (salmonellosis, leptospirosis, typhus, trichinosis, plague, etc.), and transmit them through bodily secretions left on food, objects and water, as well as through ectoparasites (fleas, bed bugs, ticks).

Methods used in the control of mice and rats:

Preventive methods – consist of preventing rodents from entering buildings and creating unfavourable conditions for their living activity in a given area. This is achieved by building objects made of solid material, closing all uncontrolled openings (openings for installations, cracks and damage, etc.), installing gratings and metal nets on the drains…

Mechanical methods – rarely used by themselves, most commonly in combination with chemical methods. They are characterized by the use of various traps (animal traps), mechanical traps, and most often rodent control glue.

Chemical methods – include the targeted use of rodenticides (poisoned bait) of different rates of action, which are most often used, then the use of repellents (rodent repellents), as well as chemosterilant agents (agents that make rodents sterile and prevent their further reproduction). Poisoned bait are most often in the form of a solid formulation (grain, pellets, soft bait). When using rodenticides, various types of rodent control boxes (so-called feeders) are used in order to make the use of poisoned bait as safe as possible for non-target organisms, the environment and humans.

The dynamics of rodent control depends on the presence and number of rodent populations, legal obligations and obligations required by the HACCP system, ISO, IFS or other standards (for business facilities and public institutions). Therefore, the dynamics can vary from 2 times a year (catering facilities, hairdressers, shops, schools and preschools, etc.), up to 12 or more times a year (for business facilities where such business standards are required). When inspecting specific areas, storage space, stored raw materials or products, our expert team easily notices traces of rodents present, such as feces, damage to goods, installations and objects, traces of movement, as well as points of entry of rodents into the facility and the like.
